This is the IEEE ITSS Italian Chapter Annual Meeting and PhD Award.

In agreement with the IEEE ITSS mission and vision, the main objectives of the Italian Chapter are the creation of a collaborative environment allowing the establishment or reinforcement of cooperation among members, the involvement of young students and researchers, and the communication of the main activities and innovative results to the stakeholders in the field of intelligent transportation systems (public institutions, private companies, associations).

To this aim, the ITSS Italian Chapter is promoting the event.

Vito Mauro of Comitato Tecnico MaaS for Italy (Presidente)

Mobility as a Service

Biography:

Vito Mauro is a distinguished Italian academic and industry expert in intelligent transport systems (ITS) and smart mobility. He served as Full Professor of Automation at the Polytechnic University of Turin from 1981 to 2010, specializing in control, modeling, and optimization of large-scale transport systems. A pioneer of ITS in Europe, since the 1980s he has led major European initiatives, including serving as European Scientific Coordinator of the PROMETHEUS program and contributing to EU projects such as DRIVE. His work enabled innovative traffic management solutions, including adaptive signal control and integrated mobility platforms like Turin’s 5T system. Beyond academia, he had a strong industrial impact as founder and CEO of Mizar Automazione (later Swarco Mizar) and through leadership roles in companies such as Swarco AG, effectively bridging research and real-world applications. He also contributed to national transport policies, including the Italian General Transport and Logistics Plan (PGTL), and served in government advisory roles. More recently, he has been involved in institutional initiatives on Smart Roads, connected and autonomous vehicles, and Mobility as a Service (MaaS). Overall, his career integrates research, innovation, industry, and policy, making him a key figure in the development of smart mobility in Europe.

Stefano De Luca of University of Salerno

Mobility as a Service for Campania Region

Biography:

Stefano de Luca has been a Full Professor of Transportation Planning since 2020 in the Department of Civil Engineering at the University of Salerno. His research and teaching activities focus on Transportation Systems planning and design, Travel behavior modelling, Intelligent transportation systems, and Logistics. He is Director of the Laboratory of Transport Systems Engineering and Sustainable Mobility, Rector’s Delegate for Mobility to/from the University and scientific coordinator of the National Center for Sustainable Mobility for the University of Salerno, as well as the scientific coordinator of the MaaS4Campania project. Author of over 165 scientific publications in international and national journals, books, and conference proceedings, he is a member of the Italian Society of Transport Professors and IEEE. He also serves on the editorial boards of Transportation Research Part F, Journal of Advanced Transportation, Sustainability, Standards, and Frontiers in Transportation.
