Day 2: Introduction to Robotics
Event Description
Introduction to Robotics is an interactive educational workshop designed to introduce children to the exciting world of robotics, electronics, and engineering through hands-on learning experiences. The session allows participants to discover how robots interact with their environment using sensors and electronic components while developing curiosity, creativity, and problem-solving skills. Through demonstrations, discussions, and practical activities, children gain a basic understanding of how technology can be used to collect information, make decisions, and solve real-world problems.
Activity Description
The activities are designed to provide children with an engaging introduction to robotics and Arduino-based systems. Participants begin with a theoretical presentation covering the fundamentals of robotics, the Arduino Uno microcontroller, breadboards, electronic connections, and ultrasonic sensors. They then explore how a height measurement system works by using ultrasonic sensors to detect distances and display measurements. Following an interactive question-and-answer session, participants take part in a hands-on experimentation activity where they build a simple circuit, connect electronic components, and use ultrasonic sensors to measure their height. Through these practical exercises, children develop observation, logical thinking, and teamwork skills while discovering how engineering concepts can be applied to create useful technological solutions.

Topic: Introduction to Robotics
Khadija El Kotti introduces children to the fascinating world of robotics and embedded systems through engaging, interactive, and age-appropriate activities. She explains the fundamentals of robotics, the role of sensors in modern technology, and how Arduino-based systems can be used to interact with the surrounding environment. Through demonstrations, discussions, and hands-on experimentation, she helps participants understand how electronic components work together to create intelligent systems. Her practical teaching approach encourages curiosity, creativity, and problem-solving while allowing children to discover engineering concepts through direct experience.
Biography:
Khadija El Kotti is an IoT Engineering student at the Faculty of Sciences of Sfax and an active IEEE volunteer. She currently serves as Chair of the IEEE IAS IES PES FSS Student Branch Chapters and is an IEEE Industrial Electronics Society (IES) Student Ambassador. Passionate about robotics, embedded systems, industrial electronics, and the Internet of Things, she actively contributes to organizing technical events, workshops, and engineering initiatives that promote innovation and STEM education. Through her leadership roles and technical activities, Khadija is committed to inspiring young learners and empowering future generations to explore technology and engineering.
