IEEE WIE "Women in Engineering Driving Mexico's Semiconductor Future: An Academia-Industry Session at the IEEE EDS Summer School 2026"
This activity is a Women in Engineering-focused special session in the framework the IEEE EDS Summer School 2026. Specifically, this event to be held on October 16 at ITESO in Guadalajara, spotlighting women's leadership in Mexico's growing semiconductor industry. The session is anchored by Dr. Alejandra Castro-Carranza, Chair of the IEEE EDS Professional Chapter Centro Occidente Section at ENES Morelia UNAM, whose talk connects her research in transistor design to training the next generation of Latin American engineers, with a particular focus on women. Of the 75 students attending, special effort will be made to add women participants from universities across Michoacán and Jalisco within WIE. A moderated panel will pair Dr. Castro-Carranza with four academic and industry leaders from Circuify Semiconductors, Intel, and Micron, giving women students direct access to mentors and connecting them to internship pipelines in Guadalajara's "Mexican Silicon Valley" ecosystem. A celebratory reception will close the session, creating space for informal networking. The event will be video recorded for the EDS Resource Center, extending the visibility of women's contributions across Region 9.
