The IEEE Jamalpur Science and Technology University (JSTU) Student Branch, in collaboration with the JSTU Robotics Club and ColdCofe – Global Tech Community, successfully organized the "IELTS Preparation & Higher Study Abroad" webinar on 19 July 2026 via Google Meet. The 2.5-hour professional development webinar was designed to guide university students and higher study aspirants through every stage of planning for international education.

The event featured Liton Chandra Paul (Senior Member, IEEE), Ph.D. Student at The University of Alabama, USA, and Md. Shizer Rahman, Assistant Professor and Head of the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering at Jamalpur Science and Technology University (JSTU), as speakers. The sessions covered higher study planning, university selection, IELTS preparation strategies, graduate admission procedures, Statement of Purpose (SOP), Letter of Recommendation (LOR), scholarship and funding opportunities, admission support platforms, and practical strategies for building a competitive academic profile. The speakers also shared real-life experiences and conducted an interactive Q&A session to address participants' questions.

The webinar concluded successfully with 82 participants attending the live session. Participants gained valuable insights into higher education abroad, scholarship opportunities, and effective application strategies, enabling them to better prepare for their future academic and professional goals.

Liton Chandra Paul (Senior Member, IEEE) is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering at The University of Alabama, USA, and is on study leave from his position as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Electrical, Electronic and Communication Engineering at Pabna University of Science and Technology (PUST), Bangladesh. A University Gold Medalist and First Class First graduate from RUET, he has received multiple research awards and has published extensively in internationally recognized journals and conferences. During the webinar, he shared practical guidance on higher study abroad, IELTS preparation, scholarship opportunities, university admissions, and building a competitive academic profile for graduate studies.

Biography:

Liton Chandra Paul (Senior Member, IEEE) is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering (EE) in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) at The University of Alabama (UA), Tuscaloosa, Alabama, USA. He is on study leave from his position as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Electrical, Electronic and Communication Engineering (EECE) at Pabna University of Science and Technology (PUST), Pabna-6600, Bangladesh.

He earned both his M.Sc. in Electrical and Electronic Engineering (EEE) and B.Sc. in Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering (ETE) from Rajshahi University of Engineering & Technology (RUET). Throughout his academic career, he has actively participated in numerous non-profit and social welfare organizations, making meaningful contributions to community development and professional activities.

Mr. Paul graduated as the First Class First (top-ranked student) in the Department of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering at RUET and received the prestigious University Gold Medal in recognition of his outstanding academic performance in the B.Sc. program. His research excellence has been recognized through several prestigious awards, including the Prof. Syed Mahbubur Rahman Best Paper Award at IEEE ICCIT 2021, the Research Excellence Award – 2022, and the Outstanding Researcher Award – 2023 from PUST. Over the years, he has secured several competitive research grants from various organizations and has authored numerous publications in internationally recognized peer-reviewed journals and conferences.

He has held several leadership positions within IEEE, including Vice Chair, IEEE Young Professionals Bangladesh (2025–2026), Founding Advisor, IEEE PUST AP-S Student Branch Chapter (2024–2026), Treasurer, IEEE Robotics and Automation Society Bangladesh Chapter (2025–2026), Advisor, IEEE PUST Student Branch (2024–2025), Vice Chair (Technical), IEEE Young Professionals Bangladesh (2022–2023), and Counselor, IEEE PUST Student Branch (2020–2021). Currently, he serves as Secretary of The University of Alabama IEEE Student Branch, Advisor of the IEEE PUST AP-S Student Branch Chapter, and Student Activity Coordinator of the IEEE AP-S/MTT-S Bangladesh Joint Chapter.

In addition, he has served as an IEEE Day Ambassador in 2024 and 2025, an IEEE YESIST12 Ambassador and Pilot in 2025, and an Organizing Member of both IEEE SPICSCON 2021 and IEEE YPCON 2025. He has been selected as a GAIN (Graduate Ambassador Initiative Network) Ambassador at The University of Alabama for the 2026–2027 academic year. He is also a member of the IEEE Young Professionals Region 3 Engagement & Communication Team (USA).

At PUST, he has successfully carried out several administrative responsibilities, including Assistant Director of the Student Advisor Office, Additional Director of the Institutional Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), and Assistant Provost of a Student Hall.

Mr. Paul serves as an Academic Editor of the International Journal of Antennas and Propagation, published by John Wiley & Sons Ltd. (ISSN 1687-5877 online; ISSN 1687-5869 print). He is also an active reviewer for numerous prestigious international journals and conferences published by IEEE, Springer Nature, Elsevier, Wiley, Cambridge University Press, IET, Hindawi, IOP, MDPI, Taylor & Francis, and other leading publishers.

His professional memberships include the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and the Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh (IEB), with affiliations to several IEEE technical societies, including the IEEE Antennas and Propagation Society (AP-S). His research interests include antennas and RF circuits, laser technologies, and quantum physics.

Motivation for Higher Study Abroad Through Practical Examples

The session focused on motivating students to pursue higher education abroad by sharing practical experiences and real-world success stories. The speaker discussed how students can overcome academic challenges, including lower CGPAs, by strengthening other aspects of their profile such as research experience, technical skills, leadership, extracurricular activities, Statements of Purpose (SOPs), recommendation letters, and IELTS performance. Participants were guided on selecting suitable universities, identifying scholarship opportunities, preparing competitive applications, and planning their academic journey strategically. The session concluded with an interactive discussion where participants received practical advice and answers to their questions on higher studies, scholarships, and career development.

Biography:

Md. Shizer Rahman is an active researcher in computational materials science. He has published numerous peer-reviewed studies in reputable international journals and IEEE conferences. His work focuses on First-principles Density Functional Theory (DFT) and material strain engineering. He completed his M.Sc. Engg. and B.Sc. Engg.  in EEE from RUET.

He started his academic career in Pundra University of Science & Technology. Later, he joined Jamalpur Science & Technology University (JSTU). Currently, he serves as an Assistant Professor of EEE at JSTU.

He also holds key administrative responsibilities at JSTU. These include serving as the Department Chairman, Chief Engineer (In Charge), and Academic Council Member.

His core research interests include DFT, semiconductor devices, SCAPS-1D solar cell modeling, power systems, and renewable energy.
