From Theory to Testbed: Digital Twins for Intelligent Transportation Systems
Next-generation transportation systems require more than connectivity; they require intelligence. This talk explores how Digital Twins (DTs) can enable this intelligence while supporting sustainable mobility. The first part of the talk will focus on the theoretical foundations of DT-enabled transportation, including adaptive twinning and AI-driven what-if analysis for proactive decision-making. The second part will move from theory to implementation by demonstrating how these capabilities can be validated in a 5G-enabled testbed via physical-to-digital synchronisation and AI-based emergency route recommendation services. Overall, the talk will present the progress from building DTs to deploying them as proactive decision-support platforms for next-generation transportation systems.

Are wearable devices really telling the truth about your heart health? Robust Sensing
Millions of people now use smartwatches and wearable devices to track their heart rate and health. However, measurements collected in everyday life are often affected by movement, poor sensor contact, and other sources of noise, which can lead to misleading results. In this talk, I will explore how researchers can distinguish genuine physiological changes from measurement errors and why reliable sensing is essential for digital health technologies. Using wearable recordings and my research expertise, I will show how new signal-processing approaches can improve the accuracy of heart rate measurements and help unlock valuable information about cardiovascular health estimated from wearables.

From Best-Effort Wireless to Deterministic Industrial Networks: Bridging 5G and TSN for Future Automation
Future industrial automation requires wireless networks that deliver not only high throughput, but also predictable latency, reliability, synchronization, and service differentiation. This talk explores the convergence of 5G and Time-Sensitive Networking (TSN) as an enabler for deterministic Industrial IoT systems. It discusses key challenges in integrating wireless and Ethernet-based deterministic networks, including QoS mapping, time synchronization, traffic scheduling, and multi-connectivity. The talk will also present insights from the development of nascTime, a full-stack 5G-TSN simulation framework, and discuss how simulation, digital twins, and programmable network intelligence can support the design and validation of future industrial communication systems at scale reliably.

Distributed AI-controlled ORAN framework for Multi-vendor 6G Environment.
The 6G envisioned multivendor ecosystem is the forthcoming transformation that the telecommunications industry is seeking. In support of this next-generation revolution, we aim to develop an open platform for telco operators with an advanced Artificial Intelligence (AI) controlled mechanism for reliable and secure instantiation of heterogeneous applications (xApp, rApp, dApp) for O-RAN (Open Radio Access Network) through the “6G Trans-Continental Edge Learning” (6G-XCEL) project. Although the O-RAN platform offers flexibility and openness to vendors, the core architecture must follow a solid yet cooperative synchronisation to ensure smooth and uninterrupted service delivery. Unlike the existing state-of-the-art frameworks, the conceptualization of an AIC for O-RAN is new yet complicated due to the randomness of services within distributed AIC modules. To facilitate this concept, we aimed to modify the DMMAI (Decentralised Multi-Party Multi-Network AI Control) framework by incorporating additional cross-AIC support features.
