This invited talk explores how antenna and wireless communication research can be transformed into commercially successful products by aligning innovation with industry needs and market opportunities.

The talk presents an application-oriented view of today's and tomorrow's antenna technologies for terrestrial and non-terrestrial networks (NTN), covering use cases including Fixed Wireless Access (FWA), mobile communications, backhaul, satellite communications, and sensing. It discusses key challenges in antenna design and simulations, manufacturing, testing, regulatory compliance, and product commercialisation.  

Through real-world examples of his market-ready innovations and emerging technologies, the talk will highlight the journey from research to revenue, including technology readiness, intellectual property, industrial collaboration, and commercialisation strategies. It is aimed at researchers and academics in antennas and wireless communications seeking to maximise the impact and commercial value of their research.

Biography:

Dr. Junaid Syed is a technology leader, Entrepreneur, and Professor with over 30 years of international experience in academia, industrial R&D, product development, and commercialisation. He holds a PhD in Electrical Engineering from QMW,  University of London and has led global R&D and engineering teams in the UK, USA, Middle East, India, and China. He worked as Global Design Manager and led the MW antenna business at Andrew/CommScope – world’s biggest antenna manufacturer at that time. He established Global MW antenna business of Rosenberger as GM. Dr Syed led the R&D and Operation , as SVP,  at Curvalux UK/USA.  In addition, Dr Junaid Syed was actively involved, for more than a decade,  in developing new Intarnational regulatory standards as member of TM4 committee of ETSI and FWCC for antennas and wireless communications.

He is the Founder and CTO of Kolojic Ltd (UK), received Entrepreneur in Residence (EiR) award from Royal Society UK, in 2025,  helping bridge academic research and industry through technology commercialisation, product development, and global supply chains. His expertise includes microwave and millimetre-wave antennas, phased arrays, Fixed Wireless Access (FWA), backhaul, and satellite ground terminals. Dr. Syed is the inventor of 27 international patents, including 14 US patents, mostly under global production.

Dr Junaid Syed was co-chair (patronage) of IEEE ICC 2026, held in Glasgow, where he was keynote speaker at the career fair. His current focus is enabling researchers to transform innovative technologies into commercially successful products.
