Session 1: Introducing the ClimateChain Hackathon

Join us for the opening Learning & Training Session of the IEEE Global ClimateChain Hackathon 2026, a global initiative bringing together students, researchers, developers, industry professionals, and innovators to explore how Blockchain, Artificial Intelligence, and emerging technologies can support climate action and sustainability.

This introductory session will present the vision and objectives of the ClimateChain Hackathon, explain the hackathon structure and participation process, and provide a walkthrough of the online hackathon platform. Participants will learn how to register, engage with the program, prepare for the upcoming technical learning sessions, and begin developing solutions for the hackathon.

The session marks the beginning of a series of learning and training activities designed to prepare participants for the IEEE Global Climate Chain Hackathon.

Opening remarks introducing the IEEE Global ClimateChain Hackathon 2026, its broader vision, and the importance of bringing together technology, research, industry, and global collaboration to address climate challenges. The introduction will highlight how emerging technologies can contribute to sustainability and climate action.

Biography:

 

Prof. Dr. Şeref Sağıroğlu is a Professor in the Department of Computer Engineering at Gazi University, Türkiye, with extensive academic and research experience spanning artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, big data analytics, data science, machine learning, blockchain, biometrics, software engineering, and next-generation technologies. He received his undergraduate degree in Electronic Engineering from Erciyes University and completed his Ph.D. at the University of Wales College of Cardiff, now Cardiff University, UK.

Prof. Sağıroğlu has authored and contributed to hundreds of scientific publications and has led and participated in numerous national and international research initiatives and technology events. His professional activities include significant contributions to information security, AI, big data, privacy, and emerging technologies. He has also held leadership roles across scientific and professional organizations and currently contributes to the  Working Group.

For the IEEE Global ClimateChain Hackathon 2026, Prof. Sağıroğlu brings extensive experience in emerging technologies and IEEE leadership to help frame the role of AI, blockchain, cybersecurity, and responsible technological innovation in addressing climate and sustainability challenges.

Biography:

 

Dr. Güven Fidan is an academic and technology professional with expertise spanning blockchain technologies, artificial intelligence, digital transformation, cybersecurity, and emerging technology applications. His work focuses on exploring how advanced digital technologies can be applied to real-world challenges and support the development of innovative, sustainable, and trusted technology solutions.

Dr. Fidan is actively involved with the IEEE Blockchain Türkiye Workgroup, where he serves as Co-Chair and contributes to technical programs, professional collaboration, and initiatives focused on blockchain and related emerging technologies. He also serves as the Team Leader for the IEEE Global ClimateChain Hackathon 2026, helping coordinate the hackathon program, technical direction, participant engagement, and international collaboration.

For the IEEE Global ClimateChain Hackathon 2026, Dr. Fidan brings his experience in blockchain, AI, emerging technologies, and IEEE program leadership to help participants understand the hackathon's objectives, challenge areas, program structure, and opportunities to develop technology-driven solutions addressing climate change and sustainability

A practical walkthrough of the ClimateChain Devpost platform, showing participants how to navigate the hackathon site, review rules and resources, understand submission requirements, and access important program information. Participants will also receive guidance on registration, team participation, project preparation, and how to take advantage of the upcoming Learning & Training Sessions

Biography:


Pradyumna Kodgi is a technology and product leader with nearly 20 years of experience in enterprise integration, cloud architecture, healthcare interoperability, and emerging technologies. He currently serves as a Principal Product Manager at Oracle, where his work focuses on cloud integration, healthcare integration, managed file transfer, multi-cloud interoperability, and the application of AI and agentic technologies to enterprise integration.

Pradyumna is an active IEEE volunteer and currently serves as Vice Chair of the IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society (EMBS) Orange County Chapter and Secretary of the IEEE Computer Society Orange County Chapter. He is also an IEEE Senior Member and a Fellow of the British Computer Society (FBCS). His IEEE activities span technical education, hackathons, conference reviewing, professional development, and programs focused on AI, healthcare, and emerging technologies.

For the IEEE Global ClimateChain Hackathon 2026, Pradyumna contributes his experience in product management, cloud platforms, AI, and technology programs to support the hackathon's digital platform and participant experience. During the introductory session, he will provide a practical walkthrough of the ClimateChain Hackathon platform, helping participants understand registration, rules, resources, project submissions, and how to engage with the Learning & Training Series throughout the hackathon journey.
