Research Roadmap is a two-day workshop designed to strengthen students’ research capabilities by providing a comprehensive understanding of research methodology and academic best practices. The programme covers the complete research process, including developing a research mindset, identifying research problems, conducting literature reviews, designing research methodologies, analyzing and interpreting data, and preparing research reports. Through expert-led sessions and interactive discussions, participants will gain the knowledge and practical skills required to conduct quality research, communicate scientific findings effectively, and contribute to innovation and academic excellence.

All participating students are requested to bring three to five research papers related to their area of interest, selected in consultation with their respective mentors.

Total intake: 60 (20-25 teams of 2–3 members each)

DAY 1 — 14th August 2026

10:00 AM – 10:30 AM | Inaugural Session
Formal inauguration of the two-day workshop, welcome address, introduction to the objectives and expected outcomes of Research Roadmap 2026.

10:30 AM – 11:45 AM | Session 1: Developing Research Mindset & Problem Identification with Potential Impact
Resource Person: Prof. Sarat Kumar Sahoo, Principal, PMEC
Introduction to research thinking, identifying meaningful real-world problems, evaluating research potential, and selecting problems with academic and societal impact.

11:45 AM – 12:00 PM | Tea Break

12:00 PM – 1:15 PM | Session 2: How to Read a Research Paper
Resource Person: Prof. Tapas Kumar Panigrahi, HOD, Department of Electrical Engineering, PMEC
A practical three-pass reading approach to understand research papers effectively, using papers brought by participants.

1:15 PM – 2:00 PM | Lunch Break

2:00 PM – 3:15 PM | Session 3: Literature Search, Finding & Organizing Research Papers
Resource Person: Dr. Rashmi Ranjan Sahoo, Asst. Professor, Department of Computer Science Engineering, PMEC
Hands-on session covering database and keyword searches, systematic collection of relevant literature, and organizing research papers using Zotero.

3:15 PM – 3:30 PM | Tea Break

3:30 PM – 4:45 PM | Session 4: Conducting Literature Review, Identifying the Research Gap & Formulating Research Objectives
Resource Person: Dr. Dinesh Kumar Dash, HOD, Department of Electronics and Tele Communication
Participants will develop a synthesis matrix from their selected research papers and learn to identify research gaps and formulate clear research objectives.

DAY 2 — 21st August 2026

10:00 AM – 11:30 AM | Session 1: Recap of Day 1, Discussion, Review & Feedback on the literature review activities conducted by the participants during the one-week gap.

Review of the literature review activities completed by participants during the one-week gap, followed by branch-wise mentoring, discussion, and feedback.

11:30 AM – 1:45 PM | Lunch Break

2:00 PM – 3:15 PM | Session 2: Research Design & Experimental Planning for AI/ML-Based Projects
Resource Person: Dr. Raghunandan Swain, Asst. Professor, Department of Electronics and Tele Communication
Introduction to research and experimental planning for AI/ML projects, covering dataset selection, model development, novelty, testing, validation, and implementation.

3:15 PM – 3:30 PM | Tea Break

3:30 PM – 4:45 PM | Session 3: Ethical & Effective Use of AI/LLMs in Research
Resource Person: Dr. Sourav Kumar Bhoi, Asst. Professor, Department of Computer Science Engineering
Responsible use of AI and Large Language Models in research, including research assistance, literature analysis, writing support, verification, originality, attribution, and research ethics.

4:45 PM – 5:00 PM | Feedback Collection & Valedictory Ceremony
Collection of participant feedback, reflections on the workshop outcomes, concluding remarks, and formal valedictory ceremony.
