IEEE Power & Energy Society NSW Chapter invites researchers, academics, engineers, industry professionals and postgraduate students to a two-day short course on Power System Analysis, presented by Professor Steven H. Low of the California Institute of Technology.

The course will cover power system fundamentals, optimal power flow, distribution-system modelling, stochastic optimization, unbalanced power-flow modelling and optimization, and electric-vehicle charging.

Steven Low is the F. J. Gilloon Professor of Computing and Mathematical Sciences and Electrical Engineering at Caltech. Before joining Caltech, he worked at AT&T Bell Laboratories and the University of Melbourne. He has held honorary and chaired professorships in Australia, China and Taiwan.

He is a Fellow of IEEE, ACM and CSEE and has received several major awards, including the IEEE Koji Kobayashi Computers and Communications Award, IEEE INFOCOM Achievement Award, ACM SIGEnergy Achievement Award and ACM SIGMetrics Test of Time Award. He is internationally recognised for his work on Internet congestion control and optimal power flow in smart grids.

Professor Low is the author of the forthcoming Cambridge book Power System Analysis: Analytical Tools and Structural Properties. He received his BS from Cornell University and PhD from the University of California, Berkeley, both in electrical engineering.
