The IEEE CSS Control Science Frontier Academic Salon & IEEE Technical Committee on Cybernetics of Complex Systems Lecture Series will be held in Conference Room 6 on the 6th Floor of Building No. 3. The talk, titled “Modeling, Control and Optimization of Multi-agent Systems,” will be delivered by Prof. Xiaoming Hu from KTH Royal Institute of Technology, with Prof. Xueyan Zhao serving as the host. The event is scheduled for August 21, 2026, from 16:00 to 17:00. The presentation will discuss the modeling, control, and optimization of multi-agent systems. It will begin with an overview of multi-agent systems, followed by a summary of related research activities and collaborations. Several case studies will then be presented to highlight recent research results, including the role of leaders in multi-agent systems and game-theoretic approaches to problems such as intrinsic formation and interbank lending. This event aims to promote academic exchange on frontier topics in control science and multi-agent systems. Topic:

Modeling, Control and Optimization of Multi-agent Systems

In this talk,  we will discuss modeling, control and optimization of multi-agent systems. We begin by giving an overview of multi-agent systems. Then we will give a summary of our research activities and collaboration in multi-agent systems. Finally, we will use some cases of study to highlight our research results. We will explain the role of leaders, and a game approach to various problems such as intrinsic formation and interbank lending.

Biography:

Xiaoming Hu received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Science and Technology of China in 1983 and his Ph.D. degree from Arizona State University in 1989, under the supervision of Professor Christopher Byrnes, a renowned expert in nonlinear systems. In 1989, he received the Göran Gustafsson Postdoctoral Fellowship from KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Sweden, and joined the Department of Mathematics at KTH in 1991. In 2003, he was promoted to Full Professor in Optimization and Systems Theory and is currently the Head of the Optimization and Systems Theory Laboratory.

Professor Hu has served as Program Director of Optimization and Systems Theory, Deputy Director of the KTH Centre for Autonomous Systems, and a member of the Executive Committee of the ACCESS Linnaeus Centre at KTH, as well as a board member of the two centers. He has led or participated in numerous research projects funded by the European Union, the Swedish Research Council, the Swedish Foundation for Strategic Research, the General Armament Department, and the Swedish Space Corporation. He has also been actively involved in the organization of international conferences and has served on the editorial boards of international journals.

His research interests include nonlinear feedback control, nonlinear observer design, sensing and active perception, and the modeling, analysis, and control of multi-agent systems. He is an internationally recognized scholar in control theory and received the Distinguished Contribution Award from the Technical Committee on Control Theory of the Chinese Association of Automation at its 10th session. To date, he has published more than 200 research papers and two monographs.
