Recap of IEEE PES 2026 T&D Conference
Brian Zook and Kevin Donahue, both of Southwest Research Institute and IEEE Power and Energy Society (PES) members, will present the technical highlights they observed at the IEEE PES Transmission and Distribution (T&D) conference that occurred in Chicago May 4-7. The T&D meeting occurs every other year, and it is a large IEEE PES conference, presumably one of the largest regularly scheduled conferences for the electric power industry: over 17,000 participants and 900+ exhibitors, covering all aspects of the transmission and distribution grids, engineering, and equipment. The topics ranged from cutting-edge technologies (e.g., a superconducting inter-tie in an in-service substation) to the exciting challenges of the electric power grid (data centers!).
The meeting is in the Archives conference room (Bldg. 51) on the campus of Southwest Research Institute. Visitors to the SwRI campus need to register so that the guards at the main gate (6220 Culebra Road) have their names and will let them in. The meeting starts at 11:30. Lunch is not provided, but there are tables, and attendees are encouraged to bring their lunch.
