Join us for our upcoming gathering!

We are pleased to announce the next meeting of the San Diego IEEE Life Members Affinity Group. All members are warmly invited to join us for an evening of camaraderie, conversation, and connection.  This will be an in person meeting.

With governments, companies, and customers pushing for renewables across the globe, the transition to renewable energy sources is happening now. But grid operators are discovering that there’s a huge challenge that they must overcome to achieve a smooth transition – maintaining enough grid inertia on the renewable grid.

We encourage all San Diego IEEE Life Members to attend and to bring along any colleagues or friends who may be interested. This is a great opportunity to network, share ideas, and enjoy delicious food in a friendly setting.

Biography:

John Barnick has over 45 years of experience in the electric power industry after graduating with BS and Master's degrees in Electric Power Engineering as well as a Minor in Economics. He retired from Hitachi Energy as the North American Director of Business Development for the Network Control product group. Previously he worked for ABB and Westinghouse Electric, involved with transmission & distribution power equipment, software, and automation systems. He has been involved in the electric industry transition, focusing on real-time operations software systems for ISO/RTOs and electric utilities. This includes SCADA, Generation Management System (GMS), Energy Management System (EMS), Market Operations System, Substation Automation, Outage Management Systems (OMS), Advanced Distribution Management System (ADMS), and DERMS (Distributed Energy Management System). Previous experience includes engineering, high voltage testing, teaching graduate level courses, strategic marketing, and sales. He has held several offices and served on various technical committees in the IEEE Power & Energy Society, regional organizations and was an NRECA Technical Advisor. He has presented many technical presentations in North America and Europe on the changing electric power industry.
