Join us for Session 2 of the Learning & Training Series for the IEEE Global ClimateChain Hackathon 2026, a global initiative bringing together students, researchers, developers, industry professionals, and innovators to explore how Artificial Intelligence, Blockchain, cybersecurity, and emerging technologies can support climate action and sustainability.
This session will explore AI and Cybersecurity Issues for Climate Change, focusing on how AI can help analyze climate data, improve prediction and decision-making, and enable innovative climate solutions, while also examining the cybersecurity, data privacy, security, and trust challenges associated with increasingly connected and AI-driven climate technologies. Participants will gain practical perspectives to help them design secure, responsible, and resilient technology solutions for their ClimateChain Hackathon projects

The Role of AI and Cybersecurity in Climate Resilience
This session will explore AI and Cybersecurity Issues for Climate Change, examining how Artificial Intelligence can support climate monitoring, prediction, analysis, and decision-making while addressing the cybersecurity, privacy, data integrity, trust, and resilience challenges associated with AI-driven climate technologies. The session will highlight approaches for developing secure, responsible, and resilient technology solutions for climate action and sustainability.
Biography:
Prof. Dr. Şeref Sağıroğlu is a Professor in the Department of Computer Engineering at Gazi University, Türkiye, with extensive academic and research experience spanning artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, big data analytics, data science, machine learning, blockchain, biometrics, software engineering, and next-generation technologies. He received his undergraduate degree in Electronic Engineering from Erciyes University and completed his Ph.D. at the University of Wales College of Cardiff, now Cardiff University, UK.
Prof. Sağıroğlu has authored and contributed to hundreds of scientific publications and has led and participated in numerous national and international research initiatives and technology events. His professional activities include significant contributions to information security, AI, big data, privacy, and emerging technologies. He has also held leadership roles across scientific and professional organizations and currently contributes to the Working Group.
For the IEEE Global ClimateChain Hackathon 2026, Prof. Sağıroğlu brings extensive experience in emerging technologies and IEEE leadership to help frame the role of AI, blockchain, cybersecurity, and responsible technological innovation in addressing climate and sustainability challenges.
