As part of his co-op program at Penn State, Sheldon worked for the U. S. Steel Corporation in the Coal Mining Division in Uniontown, Pennsylvania and the West Penn Power Corporation in utility distribution engineering in Connellsville, Pennsylvania. Upon graduation he worked for the Allegheny Power Service Corporation in Greensburg, Pennsylvania as a Transmission Substation Engineer and as a Rate Engineer. In 1982 he joined the R. E. Uptegraff Manufacturing Company, a transformer manufacturer, in Scottdale, Pennsylvania as Chief Electrical Engineering 1985 he joined Niagara Transformer Corporation in Buffalo, New York as Engineering Manager, and became Vice President – Engineering in 1988. He retired full time in June, 2023, but is a consulting engineer to Niagara Power Transformer Corp. He consults privately as Manager Member of Sheldon P. Kennedy Engineering, PLLC.

Sheldon is the Chairman of the Rectifier Transformers Working Group in the IEEE PES Transformer Committee, and chaired IEEE C57.18.10-1998, 2003, 2008, and 2021 IEEE Practices and Requirements for Semiconductor Power Rectifier Transformers. He is the past Chairman of the Sealed Dry Type Transformer Working Group, C57.12.52 and chaired C57.12.52-2012 IEEE Standard for Sealed Dry-Type Power Transformers, 501 kVA and Higher, Three-Phase, with High-Voltage 601 to 34500 Volts, Low-Voltage 208Y/120 to 4160 Volts- General Requirements. He chairs the Neutral Grounding Devices Working Group, C57.32 and chaired C57.32-2015 Standard for Requirements and Testing of Neutral Grounding Devices in the IEEE Transformers Committee. He is the past chair of the IEEE Transformers Committee Insulation Life Subcommittee. He received the “Outstanding Contributor” award in 2015 “Outstanding Service” award: in 2021 from the IEEE PES Transformers Committee. He was elevated to an IEEE Fellow in 2016 “for leadership in the technology and standards for rectifier, inverter and harmonic-mitigating transformers”. He is the IEEE PES Transformers Committee Fellows Coordinator. He is the United States industrial convertor transformers representative to IEC from the ANSI United States National Committee Technical Advisory Group. He was the NEMA Transformer Section Chairman from 2000 to 2003. He is the past Chairman of the Accredited Standards Committee C57 – Transformers, Regulators, and Reactors, 2002 - 2005. Agenda

PLEASE MAKE NOTE OF THESE IMPORTANT NEW INSTRUCTIONS STARTING SEPTEMBER 2026:

We will be alternating again this year between the Cragwood Road and Hadley Road locations.  New security procedures now require advanced clearance for entry to the buildings.  Effective immediately, registration will close at 5PM the evening before the event.  There will be no late registrations permitted.  PLEASE DO NOT ASK ME TO IMPOSE ON OUR GENEROUS HOST FOR ANY EXCEPTIONS TO THIS POLICY.

The seminar fee includes lunch, refreshments and handouts.  Non-members joining IEEE within 30 days of the seminar will be rebated 50% of the IEEE registration charge.

Four hours of instruction will be provided.  If desired, IEEE Continuing Education Units (0.4 CEUs) will be offered for this course - a small fee of $55 will be required for processing.

Please pay attention to the “Registration Fee” and choose the appropriate choice either with or without CEUs.

CEU Evaluation Form can be found at: IEEE Power & Energy North Jersey - IEEE Credentialing Program
