Topic:

36 years to make a leader

Dwayne's leadership journey began early in his career by substituting in his manager's vacant role after only a year of working as an Engineer-in-training and continued with every subsequent role. Through extensive Leadership training, plenty of mistakes and lessons learned, "36 years to make a leader" will cover all of the roles that Dwayne has had, the leaders that he followed, the influence of his peers, the teams that he led, and how all of these combined shaped the leader he became.

Biography:

Dwayne Mintzler, P.Eng., had the privilege of a rewarding career with SaskPower spanning more than 36 years. After starting with the corporation as an engineering student in 1989, he joined full time upon graduating in 1990. From there, he moved through roles of steadily increasing accountability and complexity, eventually leading to 21 years as a Senior Leader. His latest role was the Director of Engineering Technical Services, where he was accountable for a multi-disciplinary team responsible for electrical, mechanical, civil and metering engineering as well as chemical analysis and pressure vessels and piping, supporting transmission, distribution, generation and SaskPower’s customers. During his time with SaskPower, he was committed to developing the next generation of leaders through mentorship of professionals and engineers-in-training and helping to create SaskPower’s Engineer-in-Training and Electrical Engineering Technologist programs.
Dwayne received his Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering in 1990 from the University of Saskatchewan. He’s been a Professional Engineer since 1992 and is a graduate of the Queen’s Executive Development Program from Queen’s University.
Dwayne has been blessed to be a husband for over 38 years, to be a father of three and to be a Papa to two grandchildren; he retired in June of 2026 and you can now find him spending time with his family & grandchildren, travelling, camping, fishing, woodworking, learning 3D modelling & printing, and whatever else happens to pop up.
Dwayne’s presentation, entitled “36 years to make a leader”, will cover his leadership journey throughout his career and his lessons learned along the way.
