Howard Wolfman, PE

Biography:

Howard Wolfman, PE received his BSEE from the University of Illinois, MBA from Northwestern University, and is a Registered Professional Engineer in Illinois. After many years of industry experience leading engineering, manufacturing, marketing, and sales functions in diverse product areas, he formed Lumispec Consulting, specializing in Lighting Energy Efficiency.

Howard serves as the Chairman of the Board of a municipal sanitary district, has served in many other civic organizations, and has held numerous leadership positions in the IEEE and domestic/international standards and trade organizations. He is one of the top 200 fundraisers in Illinois for the MS Society.

His IEEE activities include 2024 Chair of the Admissions and Advancement Committee, past Treasurer of SSIT, immediate past chair of the Life Members Committee. Howard has also served as Chicago Section Chair, Region 4 Director, IEEE Treasurer, and a member or chair of 20 IEEE committees.

In addition, he has been an adjunct full professor in the Master of Engineering Program at the University of Illinois at Chicago, has lectured at universities worldwide, made numerous presentations, and authored many papers. Howard is a recipient of the IEEE MGA Leadership Award IEEE Centennial Medal, IEEE Third Millennium Medal, NEMA Kite and Key Award, CSA Award of Merit, Edison Report Lighting Lifetime Achievement Award, IEEE Standards Association Lifetime Achievement Award in Lighting standards, and is an Eagle Scout.

Howard, his wife, Harriet, their three children/spouses, and five grandchildren all reside in the NW suburbs of Chicago, IL. Fun fact: the oldest grandchild is majoring in Electrical/Computer Engineering.

John Steadman, Ph.D., PE

Biography:

John Steadman, Ph.D., PE is currently Dean Emeritus and Professor of Engineering at the University of South Alabama. Steadman is a native of Cody, Wyoming, and graduated from the University of Wyoming with a B.S. in 1964 and an M.S. in 1966 in electrical engineering. 

After obtaining his M.S. degree, Steadman was employed by General Dynamics in San Diego, working on astronaut life support systems as a life sciences research engineer.

He received a Ph.D. from Colorado State University in 1971 and joined the faculty at UW.

Steadman was also a Distinguished Visiting Professor at the United States Air Force Academy in 1997-98. He served as Head of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering and Associate Dean of Engineering at UW. 

Steadman is the past president of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers – United States of America (IEEE-USA). He has also served as president of the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying, the organization that represents the engineering licensing boards of the various states and jurisdictions of the United States.

He has held leadership positions in the National Society of Professional Engineers and the American Society for Engineering Education. John has served as a member of the Fusion Energy Sciences Advisory Committee for the Department of Energy, the IEEE-USA Board of Directors and the Board of Governors of the Order of the Engineer. 

Steadman represented IEEE-USA in NAFTA negotiations that resulted in rules and regulations for the practice of engineering in North America.

A licensed professional engineer, Steadman served sixteen years on Wyoming’s State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers and Professional Land Surveyors at the request of three different governors. 

Steadman currently serves on the board for The Exploreum and Alabama School of Math and Science. He recently served the Mobile Area Chamber of Commerce as Vice Chairman for Economic Development. 

Steadman has been recognized for outstanding teaching, research, and service throughout his career by the University of Southern Alabama, the University of Wyoming and numerous professional organizations.
