Saving Energy & Reducing Emissions: Powering a Low-Carbon Future
Sri Sairam College of Engineering, Anekal, Bengaluru, through the Department of Electrical & Electronics Engineering, organized a Climate Action Awareness Program on the theme “Saving Energy & Reducing Emissions: Powering a Low-Carbon Future.” The program was organized as a school outreach initiative to create awareness among school students about the importance of energy conservation, reduction of carbon emissions, and the need for sustainable and environmentally responsible practices in everyday life. The program was conducted in association with IEEE Power Electronics Society, IEEE Women in Engineering (WIE), IEEE Transportation Electrification Council, and IEEE Systems Council, with the objective of promoting awareness of climate action and sustainable energy practices among the younger generation. The session focused on energy conservation and its importance in daily life, helping students understand how energy is consumed and how responsible energy use can contribute to reducing carbon emissions. The students were introduced to the impact of excessive energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions on the environment and the importance of adopting cleaner and more sustainable energy solutions. The program also highlighted simple and effective ways to save energy at home and at school, including responsible use of electrical appliances, avoiding unnecessary energy consumption, promoting energy-efficient practices, and understanding the role of renewable and clean energy sources in building a low-carbon future. The outreach session included interactive activities, discussions, and real-life examples to make the concepts easier for students to understand and relate to their daily lives. The activities encouraged students to think about their individual contribution towards energy conservation and environmental protection. The program was conducted for school students from Classes 4 to 10 and aimed to encourage them to become more conscious of their energy consumption and environmental responsibilities. The initiative supports the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG 7 – Affordable and Clean Energy and SDG 13 – Climate Action, by promoting awareness about energy efficiency, clean energy, reduction of emissions, and sustainable practices.Through this awareness program, the organizers aimed to empower students with knowledge and practical ideas to save energy, reduce emissions, protect the environment, and contribute towards a greener and more sustainable future.
