A digital master is considered acceptable only when it accurately reflects the characteristics of the original item and complies with established guidelines and standards. Digitization workflow is analyzed with particular emphasis on target measurements. Color calibration targets play an essential role in high-quality digital photography of cultural heritage objects. These targets contain color patches defined and measured in the CIELAB color space and are indispensable for precise camera color calibration as well as automated quality control of digitization output. The National Digital Archives use various types and sizes of color calibration targets. Measurement parameters that influence the final result are presented and discussed, including: geometry, specular reflection, gloss, UV light component, CIE observer settings, illuminants, and other relevant factors.

Biography:

Assistant Professor Marcin Dąbrowski completed his master's degree in 2006 at the Poznań University of Technology, Poland, Faculty of Electronics and Telecommunications, specializing in telecommunications systems. In 2014, he completed his doctoral studies at the Warsaw University of Technology, receiving his Ph.D. from the Faculty of Electronics and Information Technology, specializing in radioelectronics. Then he worked at Polish Television (TVP) as deputy director of the TVP Technology Department. He also worked at KorDa Broadcast and ITI Neovision as head of the Set-Top Box Development Department. He currently works at the Poznań Supercomputing and Networking Center in the New Media Department and at the Poznań University of Technology in the Institute of Automatic Control and Robotics.

His research interests include radio communications, the electromagnetic spectrum, image and audio signal processing, application of artificial intelligence in this field, templates for the digitization of cultural heritage, development of online portals and services, and streaming technologies.

He has been involved in terrestrial DVB-T digitalization (MUX-1, MUX-3), DVB-T2 testing, radio measurements and planning, liaison with the regulator (UKE/KRRiT), coordinating the construction of the broadcast network, radio licenses and frequency reservations, implementing new technologies, building play-out systems, and numerous modernization projects for the Central Broadcasting Equipment and satellite systems. He has also worked on the development and production of custom and unique professional studio equipment according to customer specifications. Moreover, he was involved in the development of software for DVB and OTT decoders and back-end services, creating system and interface specifications, testing decoders for the nc+ digital platform, Canal+, and the Player+ services, and introducing decoders to the market. He designed and built services and systems (back-end, front-end) in the fields of video streaming and image processing, as well as service and infrastructure integration.

Biography:

Mateusz Bolesta is associated with the Polish National Digital Archives (NAC) as senior archivist and specialist for precise photograph digitization. He works in the NAC's Digitization Department and is a recognized expert in the digital reproduction of archival photographic materials. On December 21, 2018, he won the competition for young archivists "Implementation of modern methods in archival work".
