Walt will describe several interesting power system faults, failures and mishaps and go through the trouble-shooting process that got to the root cause. Maybe one of these will come in handy in your work. Better yet, maybe you can learn from history so you don’t repeat these mistakes on your own projects.

Biography:

Walt graduated from CU Boulder with a BSEE. He worked in Tri-State G&T engineering departments in Denver, primarily doing protective relaying, then spent two years teaching in a Christian school in Central America. He worked for United Power in Brighton, CO doing operations and design engineering until 2000. Since then, he has been a utility equipment sales representative with KD Johnson, Inc., covering the electric power market in Colorado. One of his several represented manufacturers is Schweitzer Engineering Labs. Walt is co-inventor of the “PhaseTrakker” device that does electrical phase identification on power systems.
