Oh Snap - Explore your STEM Dream - Workshop at 2026 IEEE ISAIA
Abstract/Description of the Workshop
The "Oh Snap - Explore your STEM Dream" workshop establishes a collaborative bridge between IEEE North Jersey Section, IEEE Women in Engineering (WIE), IEEE Young Professionals (YP), local IEEE Student Branches/Chap-ters, and the Girl Scouts of Northern New Jersey (GSNNJ). Grounded in the imperative to broaden K-12 STEM participation and empower future generations of in technical fields, this session operationalizes a community part-nership by introducing permanent hands-on engineering equipment to the GSNNJ Paramus "DreamLab."
Scheduled as a 90-minute half-day event from 11:00 AM to 1:30 PM, the workshop is divided into two focused phases:
1. Official Collaboration Launch & Handover Ceremony (11:00 AM – 11:30 PM): A formal unveiling of the newly funded Snap Circuit hardware kits, sponsored through IEEE Section and grant initiatives, which will find a permanent home at the DreamLab facility. Featuring remarks from leadership across IEEE North Jersey, WIE, YP, and Sandra Kenoff (President & CEO of GSNNJ), this segment highlights the strategic impact of corporate, academic, and non-profit alignment in early STEM access.
2. Train-the-Trainer Workshop (11:30 AM – 12:30 PM): An interactive, hands-on instructional lab designed to prepare Girl Scout troop leaders and IEEE volunteers to deploy hardware curriculum confidently. Utilizing Green Snap Circuit sets, attendees will work directly with the equipment, practicing circuit concepts and reviewing modular lesson plans designed for a class size of 20-30 scouts. This session serves as direct preparation for upcoming outreach initiatives, including Engineers Week 2027.
3. Lunch (12:30 PM – 1:30 PM): For registered attendees, lunch will be included as part of your registration fee. Registration fee is $15 USD
