There are no silver bullets, single points of failure, or straightforward paths to success.  As future IT professionals, Engineers, and innovators, you will be required to adapt to any number of challenges.  You need to learn how to choose the right tool for any given job, and you need to learn how to build out your toolbox so that you are prepared for the future.  This presentation will cover the techniques used by Thomas over his career to overcome the various IT challenges he faced, and a framework that you can use these techniques for similar technical and creative challenges.

Biography:


When you look at the career path of any IT professional, you will see adaptation. The tech industry is constantly changing, and success requires developing the skills to adapt and overcome new challenges.  Thomas began his career as a Signal Operator for the Canadian Armed Forces, helping set up, configure, and maintain communication equipment in rugged, high-stakes environments, including Kabul, Afghanistan in 2004.  While serving, he earned his Computer Science degree from the University of Regina and went on to work as a programmer for ISM Canada (an IBM company), coding in nearly every programming language available at the time.  He later led Application Development for a company building Smart Municipality systems, and today serves as a Solution Architect with SaskTel, where he solves complex business problems by connecting technology with real-world operations.
