 Developed at the M.I.T. Instrumentation Laboratory in the early 1960s at the height of the space race, the Apollo Guidance Computer (AGC) pioneered real-time embedded computing, was the core of the first fly-by-wire control system, jump-started the integrated circuit industry and demonstrated reliability far beyond the state-of-the-art. The AGC software -- initially an afterthought -- provided NASA invaluable flexibility and critical capability in getting to the moon. The presenter, who spent 10 years at the M.I.T. Instrumentation Laboratory, will show highlights of the AGC development and relate numerous "war stories" from Apollo engineers.
