IEEE PES KENYA STUDENT BRANCH MEET-UP
IEEE PES Kenya Student Branches Meet-Up is a national engagement and capacity-building forum bringing together IEEE Power & Energy Society (PES) Student Branch Chapters across Kenya. The meet-up will provide an opportunity to assess the current activities, engagement, and performance of PES Student Branches, share experiences and best practices, and identify areas where branches may require support.
A key objective of the event is to re-energize and strengthen PES Student Branch activities across the country, encouraging branches to increase their technical, professional, community, and membership-related engagements. The forum will also familiarize branches with the expectations and opportunities associated with the IEEE PES High Performing Student Branch Chapter (HPSBC) recognition and encourage them to actively work towards achieving it.
The event will therefore serve as a platform for collaboration, mentorship, accountability, and motivation, with IEEE PES Kenya supporting Student Branches to develop stronger activity plans, improve their performance, and build a more vibrant PES student community in Kenya.

Strengthening PES Student Branches, Improving Student Engagement, and Positioning Branches for HPSBC
This session will explore practical approaches to revitalizing IEEE PES Student Branches and creating a culture of consistent, meaningful engagement among student members. It will focus on identifying the challenges currently affecting branch activity, strengthening leadership and member participation, and developing relevant technical, professional, and community-based activities.
The session will also introduce practical strategies for positioning Student Branches for IEEE PES High Performing Student Branch Chapter (HPSBC) recognition, with emphasis on planning, execution, collaboration, visibility, and measurable impact.
Ultimately, the session aims to encourage PES Student Branches across Kenya to move beyond simply organizing events to building active, sustainable, and high-impact engineering communities that create value for their members and the wider power and energy sector.
Biography:
Jaspa Wachira is a Mechanical and manufacturing Engineer and an engineering professional with experience in mechanical building services engineering. He is actively involved in the IEEE Power & Energy Society (PES) community in Kenya and has held leadership roles within IEEE PES at both student and national levels.
He is passionate about engineering leadership, professional development, student engagement, and creating opportunities for young engineers to connect with industry and the wider engineering community. Through his involvement with IEEE PES, he advocates for active and high-performing Student Branches that provide meaningful technical, professional, and community impact.
