STEM for Hope
Orphans represent one of the underrepresented communities in Pakistan, which is home to 4.2 million orphaned children as per UNICEF report. Most of these children have no home and live on streets and prone to domestic violence, indulgence to drugs & crime and begging. It is pertinent to mention that most of orphans are aged below 17 years, therefore, their primary and higher education is critical for betterment of the whole community. The project was focused on engaging the certified orphans in educational activities via STEM technology thereby serving the humanitarian purpose. The STEM workshop was conducted for 40 students aged 10-15. The hands-on activities were based on diverse technologies including Electronics circuits, Robotics, Radar, Internet of Things (IoT) and Home automation. At the end of the workshop, the students were provided with STEM workbooks which will enable them to continue learning and exploring more hands-on STEM activities. The workshop was also aligned with UN sustainable development goals (SDGs) including no poverty, quality education and reduced inequalities. This initiative was made possible through support from the IEEE Region 10 Educational Activities Project Development Grant 2026 and was carefully aligned with the UN SDGs.
