IEEE AP-S Tokyo Chapter Workshop
In the IEEE AP-S Tokyo Chapter, in collaboration with the IEICE Antenna and Propagation Research Committee, we have sponsored and hosted the "Design and Analysis Methods Workshop for Antennas and Propagation" until now. Meanwhile, about once a year, we have independently organized the Tokyo event. On the other hand, about once a year, we have independently organized the Tokyo event. Chapter workshops are also held in parallel. These aim to improve design and analysis skills for students, researchers, and engineers related to antennas and propagation. We have organized workshops on various topics such as antenna and propagation analysis methods, multiwave propagation theory in mobile communications, antenna measurement methods, and MIMO technology, all of which have received great acclaim.
This time, we will welcome Professor Takeshi Fukusako (Kumamoto University) as the lecturer, who will give a lecture on the basic representation and physical representation of circular polarization, the basic structure of circular polarization antennas, representative design methods, antenna examples, and measurement methods for circular polarization antennas.
Overview
Circular polarization is a polarization state in which the electric field vector of radio waves propagates while rotating over time, playing an important role and having potential in a wide range of wireless systems such as satellite communications, GPS, mobile communications, radar, and wireless power transmission. In particular, because it achieves stable communication characteristics against relative attitude changes of transmitting and receiving antennas, it is used in many application fields, including mobile and satellite systems. On the other hand, in the design of circular polarized antennas, compared to linear polarization antennas, there are more factors to consider, such as axial ratio, traverse direction, cross polarization characteristics, power supply structure, and wideband expansion. Additionally, to properly evaluate its performance, it is essential to understand the measurement methods and evaluation indicators unique to circular polarization.
In this workshop, starting from the basic expressions and physical meanings of circular polarization, we will systematically explain the basic structure of circular polarization antennas, representative design methods, actual antenna examples, and measurement and evaluation methods. We aim to provide useful content not only for those who want to learn circular polarization antennas from the basics, but also for engineers and researchers involved in design, analysis, and measurement.
