Semiconductors quietly power nearly every corner of modern life, yet the supply chains behind them carry a largely invisible sustainability burden, from massive water and energy consumption to geographically concentrated, disruption-prone production networks. This webinar will explore why sustainability and supply chain risk can no longer be managed separately in the semiconductor industry, examining the environmental footprint of chip manufacturing and the frameworks companies should use to balance resilience with responsibility. It will also address the complicated role of AI in this picture as both a tool for improving supply chain transparency and efficiency, and a growing driver of the resource demands the industry is trying to manage.

Biography:

Dr. Irita Mishra is an Assistant Professor of Management at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls. She holds a PhD in Logistics and Supply Chain, an MBA in Operations Management, and an undergraduate degree in Information Technology. Her research focuses on how organizations build more sustainable and resilient supply chains, examining collaboration, risk, and behavioral dynamics across complex supplier networks. Her recent work includes sustainable supply chain risk management in the semiconductor industry, machine learning–based supply chain mapping for greater transparency, and the coordination of distributed expertise to support decision-making.
