IEEE Seminar on "The Development of the Swedish Power System" by Dr. Viktoria Neimane, Senior Vice President, Svenska kraftnät
You are welcome to attend IEEE Seminar on
“The Development of the Swedish Power System – Challenges and Opportunities from a TSO Perspective”
by Dr. Viktoria Neimane, Senior Vice President, Power System Strategy, Svenska kraftnät
The event is arranged by IEEE Power and Energy Society and Power Electronics Society Joint Chapter Sweden. This is Inaugural Event: ”Voice of TSOs” .
Abstract:
Sweden’s electricity system is undergoing a fundamental transformation. Electrification of industry, transport and society as well as digitalization is driving rapidly increasing electricity demand, while the generation mix is changing and new types of consumers, flexibility resources and technologies are emerging. At the same time, geopolitical uncertainty and growing requirements for resilience and preparedness are changing the conditions for the power system.
This presentation provides an overview of the development of the Swedish power system, the energy policy objectives shaping this transformation, and the key challenges and opportunities ahead. Particular attention is given to the need to balance security of supply, competitiveness and sustainability while managing increasing complexity, uncertainty and geographical imbalances between generation and consumption.
From a transmission system operator perspective, the transition is not only about building more generation and grid capacity. It requires a system-wide approach in which generation, transmission, distribution, consumption, storage and flexibility work together. The presentation will highlight the evolving role of the TSO in long-term system planning, coordination and system development, as well as the importance of European cooperation.
