AI-Enabled Smart Sensors and Edge Intelligence: From Sensing to Intelligent Decision Making| 4–8 January 2027
IEEE VNRVJIET Sensors Council, IEEE VNRVJIET Student Branch in collaboration with IEEE Sensors Council Hyderabad Chapter
IEEE Hyderabad Section and Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering, VNR VJIET are jointly organizing a workshop on “AI-Enabled Smart Sensors and Edge Intelligence: From Sensing to Intelligent Decision Making”
Date: 4–8 January 2027
Venue: VNR Vignana Jyothi Institute of Engineering and Technology, Hyderabad
The workshop will focus on emerging technologies in smart sensors, Artificial Intelligence, Edge Intelligence, IoT, sensor data analytics, sensor fusion, and intelligent decision-making systems. The programme will bring together experts from academia and industry to provide participants with insights into the latest developments, applications, and research opportunities in intelligent sensing technologies.
The workshop is intended to provide a combination of expert lectures, interactive technical sessions, demonstrations, and hands-on learning, enabling participants to understand the complete journey from sensing to intelligent decision making.
Advances in sensor technologies, the Internet of Things (IoT), artificial intelligence (AI), and edge computing are quickly transforming traditional sensing systems into intelligent systems that can acquire, process, and interpret data near where it is generated. Over the years, sensor-based applications have demanded that various features be acquired, transported, and analyzed at different points. These features include real-time decision-making, low latency, energy efficiency, privacy, reliability, and operation under various resource constraints. These developments have created an urgent need to understand and integrate communication, sensing, embedded computing, and AI at the edge, leading to new courses and perspectives.
AI-Enabled Smart Sensors and Edge Intelligence: From Sensing to Intelligent Decision-Making is designed to help sensor systems evolve from data acquisition to intelligent, autonomous decision-making. The program aims to provide an overview of the complete pipeline of sensor technologies and sensor networks, data processing, machine learning, Edge AI, and intelligent IoT applications. The proposed seasonal school includes multiple subtopics, including smart sensors and sensing systems, sensor networks, IoT architectures, sensor data processing, machine learning and deep learning for sensing applications, Edge AI, TinyML, resource-constrained computing, embedded AI, FPGA-based hardware acceleration, energy-efficient edge intelligence, and federated learning for distributed sensor systems. The program will include industry seminars, technical demonstrations, real-world projects, and research-oriented interactive discussions for graduate students, postgraduate students, PhD scholars, university faculty members, researchers, young professionals, entrepreneurs, and industry professionals. The school will expose students and participants to present-day technology, as well as research opportunities and challenges in intelligent sensing. The proposed theme aligns closely with the IEEE Sensors Council’s focus on sensor technologies, sensor networks, and sensor systems, and with emerging directions in intelligent and connected sensing. The Seasonal School's primary objective is to create opportunities to interface different disciplines, improve problem formulation, and develop strategies for advanced sensor-based edge artificial intelligence, ultimately demonstrating engineered, intelligent, data-driven sensor and IoT systems.
