Most technology companies build products for businesses. New Shop turns that model around: it uses technology, data, supply-chain systems, and standardized operations to package the business itself. Its product is, in effect, a ready-to-operate neighborhood convenience store.

Charak Almast’s journey to this idea began at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, where he and fellow computer science student Mani Dev Gyawali launched their first venture while still undergraduates. More than a decade and three startups later, their path has taken them from software development to data analytics and ultimately to technology-enabled retail. In this talk, Almast will trace that journey and discuss how experience, data, and repeated entrepreneurship led them from building software products to building a repeatable business as a product.
