AI-Native Communications and Security: Physical Layer to Network Architecture Workshop at IEEE ISAIA 2026
Presenter: Dr. Nirmala Shenoy, Professor and Director of the Lab for Networking and Security, Rochester Institute of Technology
AI workloads place new demands on the Internet, data centers, and wireless ad hoc networks. Distributed training, inference, autonomous systems, robotics, and edge intelligence require high bandwidth, low latency, frequent synchronization, and reliable communication among many systems. The program examines congestion, protocol complexity, failure recovery, energy use, mobility, intermittent connectivity, and security. It also considers topology aware forwarding, simpler network architectures, support for collective communication, programmable data planes, edge intelligence, and closer coordination between physical layer capabilities and higher layer network design.
