CubeSat Systems Design, Prototyping, and AI/VR Applications - Workshop at IEEE ISAIA 2026

Abstract/Description of the Workshop

CubeSat Demonstration - University Hall, Room 1010

Presenters
Abhas Maskey, PhD, Unnisec Global, Kathmandu, Nepal
Vishal Kumar, CTO, OCEAN2SAND, New Jersey, USA
John D. Moore, Executive Director, Inst. for Earth Observations, New Jersey, USA
Jin S. Kang, PhD, maru Space Technology, Maryland, USA
David R. Jackson, PhD, University of Houston, Texas, USA

This interdisciplinary workshop provides a hands-on introduction to CubeSat systems demonstrations, prototyping activities, and interactive AI/VR experiences. It aligns with ISAIA Track V: Satellite Systems and Technologies, and focuses on student-driven innovation in small satellite engineering and space systems education.

Participants will gain practical experience in CubeSat design, subsystem integration, digital twin technologies, and extended reality (XR) applications used in current CubeSat missions.
The workshop includes three interactive sessions with live demonstrations. In the first session, Dr. Maskey will guide participants through the e-CubeSat prototyping process, covering concept development, hardware assembly, subsystem integration, and testing.

The second session, led by Mr. Vishal Kumar, will explore AI/VR-enabled CubeSat applications through an immersive digital twin environment that allow participants to interact with virtual CubeSat systems in real time using XR platforms.

In the third session, Mr. Moore and Dr. Kang will share lessons learned from developing the A3Sat system and emulator. demonstrate their CubeSat and discuss the challenges students and educators encounter in developing and preparing CubeSats to meet space-compliance requirements.

An exhibit booth will feature demonstrations of CubeSat hardware, prototyping workflows, and AI/VR simulations.
The exhibit will be managed by students to encourage experiential learning, interdisciplinary collaboration, and
broader participation in aerospace and STEAM education.

This workshop supports the objectives of ISAIA Track V topics by demonstrating practical approaches to small
satellite system technologies and multi-disciplinary engineering education.

It is intended for students, educators, researchers, and industry professionals interested in e-CubeSat systems, immersive technologies, and experiential learning. Participants will leave with better understanding of CubeSat development, AI-assisted mission applications, and realistic methods for integrating hands-on learning into aerospace and STEAM programs.
