IEEE Tech Auction 2026 | Buy. Build. Impact. | 12 October 2026

IEEE Tech Auction 2026: “Buy. Build. Impact.” is an interactive technology-based team activity designed to make technology selection engaging, strategic, and creative. The activity combines an auction game with an innovation challenge, encouraging students to think beyond individual technologies and explore how different engineering tools can be strategically combined to address future needs.

The activity will begin with participants being divided into five teams of five students each. Every team will receive a virtual budget of ₹20,000. A set of technology cards representing AI, IoT, AR/VR, Computer Vision, Robotics, Cybersecurity, Blockchain, GPS, and 3D Printing will then be auctioned. Teams will bid against one another to purchase the technologies they believe will be useful for the challenge. The final challenge will not be revealed before the auction, adding an element of strategy and uncertainty to the activity.

After the auction, the challenge will be revealed: “Use ONLY the technologies you purchased to create something that can contribute to a better tomorrow.” Teams will then use their purchased technologies to develop an innovative concept. For example, a combination of AI, IoT, and Computer Vision could be used to propose a smart campus concept, while Robotics and GPS could be combined to develop an emergency-response system.

Teams will have approximately 30-50 minutes to develop their concept and prepare a short presentation covering what they are building, which technologies they purchased, how the proposed solution works, who benefits from it, and what impact it could create. Each team will then deliver a two-minute pitch to the judges.

The auction will also include surprise event cards that can change the strategy during the activity, such as doubling the price of AI, awarding a ₹1,000 bonus, requiring a team to sell one technology, or providing one free technology. These elements will encourage strategic decision-making, resource management, teamwork, and adaptability.

The activity aims to develop creativity, strategic thinking, teamwork, technology awareness, resource management, problem-solving, and presentation skills while demonstrating how technology choices can influence the feasibility and potential impact of an idea.
