The IEEE EMBS Student Branch Chapter SBC31061F, in association with the Department of Biomedical Engineering, Karunya Institute of Technology and Sciences, is organizing “Healthcare Shark Tank – Bio-Pitch” as part of IEEE Week 2026 on 15 October 2026, from 10:00 AM to 12:30 PM.
This event is designed to provide students with a platform to identify real-world healthcare and biomedical challenges and transform them into innovative, technically feasible engineering solutions. Inspired by the Shark Tank format, participants will pitch their ideas to an expert panel and respond to technical and product-oriented questions. The event will focus on medical necessity, engineering feasibility, innovation, technical approach, validation, and potential for real-world product development.
Participants can present ideas ranging from early-stage concepts and designs to simulations and working prototypes. The event will cover areas including medical devices and biomedical instrumentation, point-of-care diagnostics, rehabilitation and assistive technology, AI and digital health, wearable healthcare, and emergency and preventive healthcare.
Participants will gain valuable exposure to industry-oriented problem solving, technical pitching, product development, and expert feedback, helping them understand how a healthcare idea can progress towards a practical and scalable solution.

Biography:
Dr. Kerlin Sara Wilson is a healthcare technology professional and industry leader at nice Neotech Medical Systems Pvt. Ltd., Chennai, with expertise in strategic operations, corporate relations, medical devices and healthcare technology. She actively contributes to industry academia engagement and mentors students on medical device innovation, product development, clinical applications, regulatory affairs, entrepreneurship and career opportunities in the biomedical industry. She has also contributed to research in AI-enabled assistive technology, including brain-controlled robotic arm systems.
