SPIN: Seamless Private and Public Integrated Networking
The IEEE Student Branch Chapter of Communications and Vehicular Technology Societies of the University of Aveiro invites students, researchers, IEEE members, and professionals to an in-person technical seminar with Dr. Mahdi Darroudi, R&D Manager at Neutroon, entitled SPIN: Seamless Private and Public Integrated Networking
Organized in collaboration with the IEEE Communications Society Portugal Chapter, the IEEE Vehicular Technology Society Portugal Chapter, and Instituto de Telecomunicações, this event explores the growing importance of private 5G networks and the challenges of interoperability between public and private mobile networks.
The seminar will introduce the fundamentals of 5G network architectures, highlighting the differences between public operator networks and private 5G deployments, as well as their applications in sectors such as smart cities, industrial automation, healthcare, and transportation. Particular attention will be given to the challenges of maintaining seamless connectivity when users and devices move between networks.
The session will present the SPIN (Seamless Private and Public Integrated Networking) project, developed within the 6G-PATH project, funded by the Smart Networks and Services Joint Undertaking (SNS JU) under the Horizon Europe programme. The proposed approach leverages multi-profile SIM technology to enable seamless transitions between public and private 5G networks, including the migration of running applications. A live demonstration will showcase the solution and its potential applications.
The event will conclude with an interactive session featuring interviews, focus groups, and discussions, allowing participants to share their perspectives on public–private network integration and its potential benefits.

Mahdi Darroudi of Neutroon
SPIN: Seamless Private and Public Integrated Networking
R&D Manager at Neutroon, specializing in 5G networks, wireless communications, and public–private network integration.
Biography:
Mahdi Darroudi holds a PhD in Computer Networks from the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC), Spain. He has over 15 years of experience in wireless network technologies, including Wi-Fi, Low-Power Wide-Area Networks (LPWAN), LoRa, satellite communications, and cellular networks, alongside more than five years of teaching experience. Currently serving as R&D Manager at Neutroon, he leads research and development activities focused on advancing 5G technologies and wireless network solutions. Throughout his career, he has participated in 14 European and national research programmes and projects and has authored or co-authored more than 14 scientific publications. He is also a co-author of RFC 9159, reflecting his contributions to international networking standards.
