DL by Periklis Chatzimisios - Shaping the Connected Future: Next-Generation Communications and 6G Empowering Robotics
The evolution towards sixth-generation (6G) communications brings together connectivity, sensing, computing, and artificial intelligence to support richer human–machine interaction together with collaborative robotics. This talk explores how emerging 6G capabilities could enable autonomous systems through the coordinated exchange of visual, auditory, haptic, and sensor information. It highlights integrated sensing and communication, edge intelligence, and semantic and task-oriented communications. Application scenarios span smart manufacturing, healthcare, logistics, and emergency response. Particular attention is given to cooperative perception, real-time coordination, and adaptive allocation of communication and computing resources. The talk concludes with research challenges and standardisation priorities for scalable, trustworthy autonomous behaviour and seamless multimodal interaction, connecting advances in wireless networks with the operational demands of intelligent machines.
