Unlocking Research Internships: Insights from an IIT Principal Project Scientist

Description of the Event: Unlocking Research Internships – Insights from an IIT Principal Project Scientist

The IEEE Industry Applications Society (IAS) and IEEE Robotics and Automation Society (RAS) Student Branch Chapters at MITS-Deemed to be University, Gwalior, organized a webinar titled “Unlocking Research Internships: Insights from an IIT Principal Project Scientist” on 17 October 2026, from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM IST, in online mode.

The session featured Mr. Gulshan Kumar, Principal Project Scientist at IIT Delhi and Ph.D. Candidate in the Department of Design, IIT Delhi, who shared valuable insights into research internships, academic research, and strategies for building a strong research profile. With expertise in product design, environmental monitoring, air quality, data analysis, the Internet of Things (IoT), and embedded systems, the speaker provided participants with practical guidance on exploring research opportunities at leading institutions.

The webinar focused on three key areas: strategies for securing research internships at top institutions, building a strong CV and research portfolio, and preparing effective internship applications, cold emails, and interviews. It aimed to help students understand the research application process, identify opportunities aligned with their interests, and develop the skills and professional profiles required to pursue research-oriented careers.

The session provided a platform for students to gain practical knowledge directly from an experienced research professional, clarify their doubts, and learn about the steps involved in pursuing research internships. By connecting students with insights from the research community, the initiative encouraged them to explore academic research, strengthen their technical and professional competencies, and pursue future opportunities in innovation and research.
