The IEEE WIE STAR (Students Technological Awareness Recognition) program is an educational outreach initiative designed to promote STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) fields among school-aged students, with a special focus on encouraging young girls to pursue technical careers.
On october 27th, the IEEE WIE UFPE organized an interactive session at [Name of the School / Location]. The activity aimed to overcome gender stereotypes in technology and inspire the next generation of innovators through hands-on experiences.
The affinity group organized a creative "WIE Manga Stories" to engage visual storytelling with recent topic: "Artificial Intelligence in action: Shaping Young Innovattors for Tomorrow" at Olindina Alves Semente Primary School. The activity combined the popular art style of Japanese comics with fundamental tech concepts to engage participants in a highly interactive and relatable way.
During the event, volunteers used manga storytelling and illustration techniques to introduce Artificial Intelligence concepts, showing how AI works in the real world and how it influences modern digital art. Participants had the opportunity to explore how future innovators can use these tools safely and creatively, while developing practical problem-solving skills.
By bridging the gap between university and school environments, this initiative successfully sparked curiosity, raised awareness about the impact of engineering in society, and empowered students pre-university to consider future paths in technology.
