IEEE ComSoc Distinguished Speaker Lecture @ University College London
The IEEE Distinguished Speaker Program (DSP) is one of the most exciting offerings available to the ComSoc Chapter members and non-members. It connects senior IEEE ComSoc members, who are renowned communications technology experts, with ComSoc chapters so they can share their knowledge, expertise, and insights into the future of communications technology. The ComSoc UK and Ireland is pleased to host the DSP lecture by Dr. Milos Tesanovic.

Mobile communications standards and the road to 6G
The talk will elaborate the intricate process of creating mobile communication standards and shed light on how 4G, 5G and beyond go from research, to reality. We will discuss the concept of communication standards and look at some prominent examples, before focusing on mobile communication standards and examining the role regional Standards Development Organisations, 3GPP, and regulators play in the complex telecoms ecosystem, including possible careers path within this ecosystem. We will look at some concrete, real-life examples of technical and pragmatic decisions that need to be taken during the creation of mobile standards, and how they impact the overall design of mobile networks and devices and the services they offer. And finally, we will look at the basics of intellectual property with focus on patents.
