[Legacy Report] Low-Cost Large-Area AMOLED TV: A Dream or Feasible

The active matrix organic light emitting
diode (AMOLED) display is a strong
candidate for the ubiquitous next
generation display because of attributes
such as low
power consumption, wide
viewing angle, highly saturated colors,
fast response, and high contrast ratio.
More importantly, its structural
simplicity (compared to the
active
matrix liquid crystal display) gives it
the potential for low fabrication costs.
Particularly it is a better fit to 3D
applications due to the aforementioned

characteristics compare to LCD displays.
However, the cost and size of AMOLED
displays have been limited due to some
manufacturing and lifetime hurdles.

Here, we will investigate a unique way
of fabricating these displays that can
lead to large-area low-cost AMOLED
displays. This talk will cover different
color
patterning schemes, backplane
electronics, testing and yield
improvement
