High-Power Solar Array Emulation - IEEE CNNNJ
High-Power Solar Array Emulation
On Thursday, April 28, 2011 the IEEE Consultants' Network of Northern NJ (www.technologyontap.org) features a presentation by Adam Pitel, Director of Business Development at Magna-Power Electronics.
ABOUT THE TOPIC
The rapidly growing solar energy market demands new solutions for solar array and inverter development and production testing.
Magna-Power Electronics designs and manufactures high-power switched-mode programmable DC power supplies from 2 kW to 1 MW+. In mid-2009, the company began development on its Photovoltaic Power Profile Emulation (PPPE) software package and firmware overhaul, tailoring its power supply’s output characteristics to emulate a solar array. The market response to this development was overwhelming, as no similar product existed at high-power levels. As a result, the company continued to focus its research and development efforts to better address opportunities in the emerging solar market.
Adam Pitel from Magna-Power Electronics will address the test and measurement solar market opportunities, how the company quickly reinvented its products to address a market void, and its on-going solar application developments.
ABOUT THE SPEAKER
Adam Pitel received the B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering from Bucknell University. He received the M.Eng degree in Electrical Engineering from Princeton University where he researched rapid charge/discharge lithium-ion batteries and high-power rapid charger technologies. Adam joined Magna-Power Electronics as Director of Business Development and is responsible for applications engineering, product marketing, and overseeing sales. In addition, he serves as a chair for the Applied Power Electronics Conference (APEC)
