[Legacy Report] IEEE WIE Affinity Group Student branch inauguration at MJCET
The IEEE MJCET Student Branch Inaugurated its WIE Affinity Group on 10th November 2011. The petition for starting the group was filed in December 2010 and it was approved in May 2011. The interim body of the IEEE WIE has been active in the last six months and had conducted two events namely Notebook Donation Campaign to poor and underprivileged girls of Safdaria Girls High School and Membership Awareness Drive in Shadan Womens’ Engineering College. Based on the active participation of the volunteers in these events the executive body of WIE Affinity group was finalized by Dr. Kaleem Fatima, Branch Counsellor and WIE Advisor.
Ms. Madhumita Chakravarty, Chair of IEEE WIE, Hyderabad Section was invited as the Chief Guest of the Inaugural session. Ms. Rashmi Ambale, Active Member, IEEE WIE , Hyderabad Section was the guest of Honor. The function started at 4.00PM with Qirat by Ms.Maria Mohammed. Dr. Kaleem Fatima presented the welcome address and invited young women budding Engineers to join the prestigious IEEE organization and serve the society in general and the engineering community in particular. Ms. K. Deepika presented the annual activity plan of the WIE which included Computer classes for faculty of Safdaria Girls High School and STAR program for students of Sultan Ul Uloom Junior College and a PLANT A TREE campaign.
Dr. Basheer Ahmed, Principal, MJCET gave the presidential remarks in which he applauded the role played by women engineers in the society and specifically in MJ College. He pointed out that four Heads of Departments in MJCET are women and are doing an excellent job. Dr. Kaleem Fatima, Head ECE received special praise for her leadership of the department and active role played by her in development of the IEEE Activities in MJCET.
Ms. Madhumita Chakravarti, stressed on the importance of doing engineering projects and bringing engineering into day to day life and encouraged the girls to fulfill their social responsibility as homemakers and after that also actively participate in engineering activities, all this is possible with proper planning. Ms. Rashmi Ambale, pointed that today’s engineers are more in rote learning and emphasized that clear understanding of fundamental concepts is an absolute must to survive in the industry. All the speakers emphasized on the need to balance between home and the profession. This would be possible with proper planning and support. The vote of thanks was presented by Ms. Kaunain Fatima, Secretary, WIE MJCET.
