In this talk, various effects of wordlength reduction in digital filters will be highlighted. A brief survey of the literature on the subject will be presented. The problem concerning the global asymptotic stability of 1-D and 2-D fixed-point state-space digital filters under the influence of quantization and/or overflow will be discussed. Finally, this talk will also open several problems for further investigations.
