[Legacy Report] American Railway Electrifcation
The first part of this presentation will focus broadly on the history of American railway electrification from the 1890s through the 1930s when most major electrification systems were completed. It will highlight some of the major early achievements in electric traction and will close with a short review of the factors that influence how states & municipalities make decisions on the feasibility of building rail transit systems today. The second part will focus on two of the earliest major electrifications: the New Haven Railroad's 25 Hertz 11,000v AC system, and the New York Central's 660 volt DC electrification and how MNR has upgraded them over the last 25 years. Part 2 will be generously illustrated with Bob's photographs...
