The IEEE Southern Alberta PES/IAS Chapter is pleased to announce a two-day hands-on design workshop, presented by Carl Orde, covering the following aspects of transmission line design:

Day 1

  • Preamble
  • Basic approaches to transmission line design
  • Loadings
  • Failure containment loadings (deterministic)
  • Loading Calculation Exercises
  • Structure strength
  • Conductor basics
  • General discussion, Q&A

 

Day 2

  • Insulators
  • Hardware
  • Electrical Clearances
  • Other electrical considerations
  • Line design
  • Line uprating
  • General discussion, Q&A

Attendees should bring a scientific calculator for the design exercises.  Printed course notes and a PDF version of the same on a Memory Stick will be provided.

Lunch is included.  Please indicate any food allergies or dietary restrictions when registering.

Registration consists of two parts - vTools and PayPal. Follow the "Register Now" link below, and complete the information. Carl Orde is past chairman and associate member of Canadian Standards Association (CSA) Overhead Lines Committee (Standard C22.3 No. 1).  He is a Professional Engineer with over 45 years’ experience in overhead line design
