Design for Safety of New Generation of Consumer Electronic Products' Battery Systems
As batteries get increasingly adopted in the new generation of consumer electronic products, lithium-ion batteries face potential new stresses that can affect their safety performance. This talk will explore some of these new stresses, including the natural environment, user interaction, and industrial design, as well as the failure modes of lithium-ion batteries that can result from them. Finally, design considerations aimed at improving the safety of battery systems in these new products are presented.
Biography:
Dr. Fok is a senior engineer at Exponent. His expertise is in lithium-ion batteries and energy storage systems. His primary focus is to help clients deliver safe and reliable lithium-ion energy storage solutions through the use of battery safety and reliability testing, battery modeling, and advanced battery characterization.
Through his prior experience at GP batteries, he was involved in projects at all stages of the product lifecycle, including fundamental research, IP analysis, product conception, prototype development, and new product introduction. He also has extensive experience in lithium-ion battery management systems, electrochemical testing of battery active materials, and nickel metal-hydride batteries.
