Bombay Section SB Leadership Conclave - Nagpur
IEEE Nagpur Subsection in association with IEEE Region 10 Student Activities Committee and IEEE Bombay Section hosted R10 Leadership Training and Membership Development Program - SB Leadership Conclave.
The event witnessed a total participation of 100+ delegates including the Executive Committees of all the SBs and Young Professional Members from within and beyond the Geography. The event was hosted on the 5th of October, 2019 at Ramdeobaba College of Engineering and Management, Nagpur.
Event is well drafted to target the Student Branch Leadership to orient and channelize them properly in order to develop a proper understanding and details of Student Branch operations such as plan of operations, leadership and team management, officer and activity reporting and scaling the membership benefits properly. We invited leaders forum from Bombay Section and Nagpur Subsection, who briefed networking insights along with giving the clear understanding of organizational stuff, also disseminated and shared their knowledge and experiences through interactive sessions, IEEE Awareness programs, Case studies, Networking exposure, Games and Activities, Student Branch Competitions.
This helped Student Branches, student members and branch counselors as they got a better understanding on leadership and team management, officer and activity reporting and to run membership drives aiming to enhance student membership number and its retention. The initiative also acted as a platform that brought together youth with professionals and experts with their ideologies tallying up to be the best exchange of wisdom and acuity. It also trained the IEEE volunteers and made them aware of the various awards, scholarships and funding opportunities and perks provided by IEEE.
The program targeted the audience from several domains of Engineering who are a part of IEEE. Reporting time for delegates was 0900 hrs IST, the task of registrations, briefing about venue and distribution of delegate kits successfully accomplished till 10:30hrs IST and then program continued with the inaugural speeches and Lamp lighting ceremony, having the presence of Host College Members, EXECOM from Section and Subsection, subsection volunteers followed by a motivational address and a welcome note by Dr. Richa Khandelwal, Secretary IEEE Nagpur subsection on the behalf of whole organizing team. It Boosted the enthusiasm of audience and encouraged them for the sessions ahead.
The first session of the day commenced by Immediate past chair IEEE Nagpur Subsection, Dr. Preeti Bajaj, who is currently the Vice Chair Awards India Council. She mainly focused on the following points:
- Motivating students and volunteers about IEEE membership Benefits and perks
- Briefing about how to distinguish chapters and Student branches.
- Perks like magazines, Awards and various other hidden and beneficial aspects of IEEE.
She made the students understand that IEEE should not only be utilized by an individual for their personal growth but also should be given back to the community.
Followed by this, we had a session conducted by IEEE Nagpur Subsection Chair Mr. Arvind Kumar, who is currently the Centre Head of TCS, on IEEE SB structure & Leadership formulation by MGA and briefed audience on:
- Bringing more and more industry participation in IEEE.
- Encouraging students to bring out industrial and entrepreneurial skills.
- Briefing about how to rejuvenate chapters and Student branches.
He talked about how the major dimensions of IEEE that are SBs, YP, and Industry are goanna impact us.
Next session was delivered by Dr. Vinit Kotak, who carried forward the event and elaborated over IEEE SB resources such as Vtools Rosters, Collabratec, SAMIEE, CLE by:
- How IEEE enhances technological knowledge via displaying videos and distinguished conducting activities.
- Sharing his experience of internship provided by IEEE Bombay section.
- Discussed about ventures and entrepreneurship
- Briefing on robotics, current and future trends in technology.
- Importance of ieee.org, online courses and various job opportunities etc.
This was followed by lunch where delegates networked well with each other as well as with the speakers.
The Workshop cum Training session over Vtools and OU Analytics was taken by Mr. Shubham Gupta. He is the Co- Founder, Synergic Minds Solutions LLP, enthusiastic young professional with an experience set of 3.5 years. Also a believer of go getter policy and immense interest of working, He served as Marketing Head, Industrial Motor Division of Havel’s India Limited. He has been a part of IEEE for past 7 years and has been serving as Volunteer with various officer positions held during the course such as Secretary to Students Activities Committee, IEEE Bombay Section. It included demonstration session on OU Analytics which is for visual business intelligence tool for volunteer access to member data and IEEE volunteer tools (vtools) site provides information on a wide range of tools developed by volunteers for IEEE members and IEEE volunteers.
At the end of the day the interactive Case study and Solutions activity was conducted by Mr. Shubham Gupta and Ms. Dimple Khilwani. She is currently into her final year of Engineering, having a domain of Computer Sciences. She has been the Student Representative for Bombay Section& Nagpur subsection for two years now. She is currently the mentor to Student Branch of GHRCE and Nagpur Subsection. She is also Industrial Relations lead in IEEE India Council Student Coordination Team. She is currently working with Vruksh Ecosystems as Regional Operations Lead.
The session was a group based activity discovering the following four aspects while working in IEEE:
- Challenges
- Targets
- Strengths
- Opportunities
It was a type of competition to strategically bring out the drafted solutions to problems faced by student branches. It also created a pool of ideas, constructive criticism suggestions aspirations and further vision too. Discussion covered all the directly and indirectly included criteria like exposure, support awareness etc.
The event concluded with the cake cutting ceremony and followed by which there was a photography & videography and session with delegates and the EXECOM Members of IEEE Nagpur Subsection.
