AI/ML Hands-on 4-part Workshop Series
Chicago IEEE Women in Engineering presents AI/ML Hands-on virtual workshop. The purpose of this workshop is to demystify artificial intelligence and machine learning through hands-on training. After 4 short sessions, the students will be empowered with new skills to start creating AI/ML models.
The workshop series will be delivered on September 8th, 15th, 22nd, and 29th from 5:00 PM to 6:00 PM Central Time. Please register to attend the workshop series. The registration will close on August 31st, 2020. Virtual Meeting info will be sent to those who register.
- Presentation title: Installing AI/ML tools on your PC
- Short description: Jupyter notebook is the most popular web application used today by AI/ML developers to create AI agents. Anaconda is the most popular data science platform in the world for python and R tools distribution and deployment. It can automatically keep your AI/ML data science tools up-to-date and in-synch, properly managing software dependencies. In addition to Jupyter notebook and Anaconda, this workshop will guide you in installing 3 popular AI/ML libraries: Tensorflow, Keras, and Scikit Learn.
- Presentation title: What is a Neural Network and tuning hyperparameters of a NN on Tensorflow Playground
- Short description: This session explains what a neural network is and what hyperparameters are. Then, it introduces the Tensorflow Playground which is an interactive web application to help would-be data scientists learn and visualize neural networks. Tensorflow Playground has easy-to-use buttons to modify a model by adjusting its hyperparameters including adding/deleting layers and neurons. Four input and test data sets are provided to train and update the AI models.
- Presentation title: Introduction to AI/ML coding
- Short description: Using Jupyter notebook, you will work on neural network code and train a simple neural network-based model leveraging Keras, Tensorflow, and Scikit Learn APIs. The model will do predictions for a fictious drug trial.
- Presentation title: Microsoft Azure Machine Learning Studio
- Short description: Don’t want to code but still want to create AI/ML models? MSFT Azure ML Studio is an autoML tool that enables you to do this with a drag-and-drop graphical user interface along with a collection of many machine learning algorithms to choose from. This session will teach you how to use ML Studio to create an AI model that can predict whether a patient is diabetic or not.

ANNE Y. LEE
Biography:
ANNE Y. LEE is a Bell Labs Fellow currently working as a Bell Labs CTO Partner on Technology Strategy and Architecture supporting the CTO and CEO by analyzing the evolution of key technologies (e.g. artificial intelligence) and the overall network architecture to identify new directions for the industry and the impact and requirements on the company's portfolio. Prior to this, Anne was the CTO of IMS Innovations. In this role, she initiated and drove next generation IP communications solutions such as WebRTC as well as worked on creating the vision and initiating the work for future IP communications. She has also previously worked in both the Wireless CTO and Wireline CTO organizations. Anne has over 30 years of experience at Nokia (AT&T, Lucent Technologies, Alcatel-Lucent, and Nokia). She is the original IMS technical team leader for Lucent Technologies working closely with the standards team from the beginning – circa 1999 – to pioneer the multi-access, globally interoperable IP communications system being deployed worldwide today. 2019 was the 20th anniversary of IMS with over a billion devices deployed utilizing VoLTE, VoWiFi, fixed voip, and RCS services. IMS will continue to evolve forward towards 5G to provide Vo5G/VoNR.
Anne became a Bell Labs Fellow in 2005. She is an electrical engineer and computer scientist by training and a technologist at heart.
