A whole day visit to the Hartebeesthoek Radio Astronomy Observatory (HartRAO) to see in detail the telescopes and microwave laboratory with a talk on radio astronomy. Light lunch will be provided.

07:50 - depart from the University of Pretoria for HartRAO (1 hour drive)
09:00 - arrive at HartRAO - welcoming with coffee and tea (PS)
09:30 - talk on general Radio Astronomy, antennas and receivers (MG)
11:00 - tea/coffee break
11:15 - visit the 26 m antenna and the 15 m antenna (PS)
13:00 - lunch
13:30 - visit the control room (PS, MG, JQ)
14:00 - visit the microwave ws - informal talk and discussion (RM, PS, KJ)
15:30 – depart
Only attendees with shoes that have non slip soles and which tie up with either laces or straps will be allowed to go on the antenna. The attached "link":hobix serves as an example. Hard hats will be provided. All attendees that wish to go on to the antennas need to comply. NO exceptions.
