Don McDonald

A presentation on career development based on Don's experience, reviewing choices he's made and the results; provide some tools and review mechanisms used to decide the best path for career growth, how to actually enjoy your career, and briefly in respect to navigating COVID career development and what are the available career choices today.

Biography:

Don McDonald has held a highly successful career in Electrical Engineering for 40+ years, primarily in the semiconductor manufacturing area. Don has held a multitude of qualifying positions, with his first major milestone positions consisting of a Wafer Fab Manager, Vice President of Operations and Director of Operations for several companies (Intersil, Synertek, AMD).

Don then made the transition from being a company employee to a consultant for these industries, during which time Don also incorporated a European subsidiary of Thomas Group, and was the founder of two consulting firms, with clients such as Siemens, ST Micro, ASML, Bosch, etc. Don’s later career milestone’s included becoming President of JDSU – Eindhoven (a manufacturer of source lasers for the internet), and finally, was the COO for Intense Photonics in Scotland. Don is now retired and serves as one of the mentors for the Senior Capstone Project Engineering 498 Class at the University of Arizona’s College of Engineering.
