Abstract: With the development of new IT technologies such as Internet of things, big data analytics, deep learning, and swarm intelligence, we come into the era of Industry 4.0, or Industrial Internet. As a part of industry, logistics are stepping into its 4.0 era, which is no doubt a kind of smart logistics. A new mode of flexible manufacturing, i.e., customization with a very small order, is discussed. Compared with traditional manufacturing, the layout is easy to reconfigure, and more AGVs are utilized. Logistics planning is a key part of jobshop scheduling. Cloud computing and edge computing are important techniques to support it. Event-driven real-time scheduling is discussed as a key technique for the new mode compared with traditional pre-scheduling. Three kinds of real-time scheduling are analyzed and compared. They are machine, AGV and order-driven. Several challenges are discussed such as data transmission, swarm intelligence and on-time optimization. Finally, the conclusions and future research direction are given.
